Driving Demand for Home Energy Improvements by Merriam Fuller. A Book Review by Daryl Arnold

This research in this study suggests that it is up to government with the support of consumers to driving demand for home energy improvements.  One of the keep points of the research paper was to have policy maker create program that customers think are available to them. Another point is for customers to make the necessary investment to create the market for the home improvement industry to stay in business. Also this research was produce for the contractors or producers of the product that will be put into people’s homes and businesses. The authors of this research want to provide information to customers, businesses, and governments; so they could make a inform decision on their own programs.

The government on the state and local levels must lead the industry of home energy improvement. The regional governments need to work with local governments to create unique strategies for a local region. Local ambassadors need to understand the program in their local area; so people can get the knowledge people will want to generate buzz for the program. In the study, the language of the program is very important. Also local outreach must be available as long as the plan is around. One or few time media releases will not get the job done. The authors of this research think that government must know their individual audiences in order for the program to be successful.

The next demographic is the local customer and business that will buy the products created by the home energy improvement industry. The early pioneers of the programs have to be passionate about the home energy improvements. These individual will become secondary ambassadors of the program and provide information to friend, family, and colleagues. In a new market, these individuals are second important part to the success implementation of the programs created by the governments.

Contractors are important part of the program because they execute the program and have the most interaction with the customers. The message in the home improvement is to under promise but over aggrieve. If a customer is unsatisfied with the service that they received, they will turn ten other people against the industry. These contractors are the bread on a great sandwich if the bread is burnt nobody likes the sandwich.

While there is no one message to get a great program this summary of what each part play is a good start. Government must provide a great program to engage customer and businesses to respond to the program. The first customers must be target audience for overall success. Contractors must offer excellent customer service to create a good reputation about the industry. This research was created to show some program’s successes and failures.
